The countdown to 2009-10 has begun, and Aldershot Town will hope that their second season in League Two starts as scheduled, with the visit of troubled Darlington on Saturday 8 August. Finding themselves in a rather more Northern-centric division, local derbies are at something of a premium. However, The Shots make two early-season midweek trips to the seaside, with games in Bournemouth and Torquay, along with a couple of long journeys north, to Rochdale and Grimsby. They then play three of last season’s relegated teams in September, including what will surely be a keenly-anticipated home game against Hereford. Boxing Day once again pairs Aldershot with Barnet, at The EBB Stadium, with potentially frosty visits to Edgar Street and Accrington taking us through Christmas week and into the New Year. Easter 2010 sends Gary Waddock’s side to Macclesfield before hosting Rotherham two days later, and the season finishes at Morecambe on Saturday 8 May, in what will surely be another explosion of colour from the away end with the now-traditional fancy dress party. Whether those celebrations will also be for a successful season remains to be seen. |
It promises to be a festival of football at the start of August. With the new season kicking off on August 8th, Aldershot fans could watch an exciting double header with the news of an ATFC legends match taking place the following day. Ben Edwards from Bracknell Town has been awarded a testimonial match for 11 years service to the club, and with the support of Aldershot Town and Bracknell Town is arranging a match to involve past legends from both clubs:
The match will kick off at Larges lane at 1pm on Sunday 9th August, and will involve some of the following Aldershot Town Legends managed by Terry Brown and Stuart Cash:
Mark Butler, Gary Abbott, Keith Baker, Andy Nunn, Colin Fielder, Otis Hutchings, Stuart Udal, Koo Dumbuya, Gareth Howells, Mark Watson, Owen Coll, Simon Bassey, Paul Harford, Stuart Harte, Neil Selby, Ian Savage, plus hopefully the likes of Dave Osgood Darren Barnard Ollie Adeji and a few others.

The Shots have been drawn away to Bristol Rovers in the Carling Cup first round to be played either 11th/12th August. The draw will come as something of a disappointment to many fans - Aldershot having already played Rovers in recent years in the FA Cup (losing the replay away in Bristol on a Tuesday night, following a home draw). Many would have viewed the Carling Cup as an excellent opportunity to play a Championship club away from home, at a new ground. |

It may have taken the combined powers of Batman, WonderWoman, Bananaman and the Pope – not to mention more than a dash of romance – but Aldershot Town ended their first season back in the Football League on a huge high. Cheered on by over 350 boisterous and colourful travelling supporters – many in ‘Super Hero’ themed fancy dress – The Shots fifth away win of the campaign was sealed in perfectly poetic fashion with a parting gift from Scott Davies: a 25-yard drive just two minutes before the end of his loan from Reading. |
