Two steps forward and one stumbling step back, inconsistency reigns once more at The EBB Stadium. Generous to a glaring fault, The Shots gifted Burton two early goals and thereafter lacked a few fundamental qualities – cohesion, creativity, passion – to drag themselves back into a disappointingly lack-lustre game. Paul Peschisolido’s tactics, though, were spot-on – defending from the front and overcoming a numerical disadvantage in midfield with ease – as Burton comfortably turned Aldershot’s sluggish start into a debilitating defeat. |

Kevin Dillon has continued to reshape his inconsistent Aldershot Town squad with the departure of two midfielders on loan. Lewis Chalmers follows John Grant to Oxford, in a deal which lasts until the end of the season. The 24 year-old, a key member of Aldershot’s Blue Square Premier winning side, has made 105 appearances for The Shots, scoring four goals; his last start came in the 2-0 defeat at Hereford last month, but he hadn’t scored in nearly a year. Last season Chalmers was loaned to Crawley Town, after losing his place in Gary Waddock’s team. Also departing is erstwhile non-contract signing Bobby Hopkinson, after just two substitute appearances for The Shots. Hopkinson impressed during several pre-season friendlies but has failed to force his way into the starting line-up and was loaned to Farnborough Town in January. He is expected to return to Tiverton Town. |

Only serving to reinforce their manager’s criticism of a "frighteningly inconsistent" team, Aldershot Town snatched a debilitating and potentially damaging defeat from the jaws of a comfortable victory. Apparently cruising with the 2-0 lead given them by two rare cameos of quality in a game largely devoid of any technical merit, The Shots late capitulation was entirely of their own creation, leaving Kevin Dillon a forlorn and seemingly helpless figure in the home dugout. Slowly dragging themselves out of their initial, stumbling stupor, Kirk Hudson’s angled drive and a flashing volley from Scott Donnelly gave Aldershot the perfect platform to secure only their second win in seven games against a Daggers side labouring through their own poor run of form. However, goalkeeping errors gifted Paul Benson two goals and, to add insult to injury, Dagenham capitalised upon a limping Sandell to fashion a perfect breakaway winner. |

Consistent only in their inconsistency, Aldershot Town produced the archetypal away performance to deservedly defeat an in-form Chesterfield side going for their seventh consecutive win. Danny Hylton’s deft 64th minute header capped a resurgent and hugely impressive display and earned the three points which were just reward for the team’s stoicism. It was typified by the returning Dave Winfield and retained Stephen Henderson, both of whom enjoyed superb games. |

In reality only six days had elapsed, but this was a performance which felt lightyears – virtually an entire new dimension – away from last weekend’s defeat at Barnet. Amidst a tumultuous and frequently volatile encounter, Aldershot Town rediscovered their belief and cohesion, and in doing so reignited a seemingly faltering push for the Play-Offs. |
