The season that fizzled out - in every which way. Until Christmas we were top - and had featured extensively on MOTD as a 7,500 crowd watched us against Brighton in the FA Cup. But a sequence of bad results left us struggling in the league, although we rallied to finish fourth. The decision early on to dump the smaller cups meant little to play for as the season wore on. The talking point of the year though - was the weather. Think continuous rain from September through to April and that will be the memory of 2000/01. We had many games postponed home and away (not as many as Hendon though who managed 34). The season ended in farce as the Shots only actually completed 41 games. The home match with Billericay never made it, as we ran out of dates. Again Hendon took the biscuit with three games scheduled for the final Saturday - circumstances meant they played just one and ended with a record of "Played 40".
