So close, but yet so far. In the end all it came down to was goal difference. A massive end of season game against Newbury saw bizarre circumstances. A home win for Aldershot was easily achieved, but results elsewhere went against us and for the first time in our history we faced a season without promotion. The first change of manager for ATFC was also recorded, as Steve Wignall left for Colchester to be replaced by (his almost namesake) Steve Wigley, a player with great playing experience, but no management experience.
In the cups we faced (the already traditional defeat) in the Hampshire Senior Cup at the hands of Farnborough. This time the record breaking crowds and atmosphere were missing as the semi final was played at a neutral ground, the Camrose of Basingstoke. The other cup competitions were notable only because we got thrown out of the FA Trophy for fielding an ilegible player.
