In 1923, jockey Frank Hayes won a race at Belmont Park in New York despite being dead — he suffered a heart attack mid-race, but his body stayed in the saddle until his horse crossed the line for a 20–1 outsider victory.

" Not many people know that" is attributable to Michael Caine, but who actually said it?
It's actually " not a lot of people know that"

Jessie Owens' first name wasn't Jessie. When the teacher at his school asked his name he relied "J.C. Owens" and was too embarrassed to correct her when she started calling him "Jessie"

If you dig a hole straight through the earth and jump in, you will come out the other side in 42 mins and 12 secs.
i was led to believe if you jumped in before you popped out the other side the gravitational pull would pull you back and you would bob backwards and forwards until eventually coming to rest in the centre of the earth
