O/T BBC Pay

Post by Red-n-Blue » Wed Jul 11, 2018 12:18 pm

2017/2018 BBC pay revealed - Gary Lineker earnt £1.75 million and Chris Evans earnt £1.66 million.

How in God's name can anyone at the BBC justify such salaries for a football pundit and a breakfast show DJ?

Correct...although the term I'd prefer to use wouldn't pass the ShotsWeb sweary filter.

There is no need for the BBC to be publicly funded anymore as its role as a state broadcaster has been pretty much overtaken by wide spread of other news service channels, so yes Lazio I agree with you scrap our ownership of it and let it be an independently financed commercial company.

Mind you I must admit I groaned when I saw that tonight's game is on ITV, their coverage is poor and a cant stand the advert breaks spoiling the whole match experience

The BBC at most should provide a world service and a news channel, there is no longer any need for the entertainment side or the number of television and radio stations now covered by commercial networks.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. 'Gets paid' is much more appropriate, and in so many others cases as well. It may well be a case of 'supply and demand' but that sort of wage for doing what he does seems rather ott to me. Still, I doubt that he or the others lose any sleep over it.

They do still produce some very good entertainment programmes so I wouldn't scrap the BBC channels altogether just change they way they are financed so that no taxpayers money is involved, there is no licence fee and that they fund themselves through advertising the same as every other TV channel.

I agree that the Worldwide service and the News Channel could be maintained but on much lower costs and fully funded by BBC Worldwide which already sells it programmes around the world.

I look forward to watching the BBC whenever I'm in England. The documentaries are first rate and an increasing number of the dramatic and comedy programs are appearing on my side of the pond. Don't underestimate what you're getting from the BBC.

Well, if you are funded by what is effectively a tax (plus fat grants for certain practices :D ) you have money to burn...so they do. If you examine the accounts, check out the taxi and flowers spend!

Nice work if you can get it!

what they provide would cost ALOT more if they were a private company.
AND you'd have to put up with adverts.

people are funny. why would you want to pay more for something!!?

still, the longer the Tories stay in power i guess its only a matter of time, there can't be much left to sell off...
