Against Enfield.
I have St Albans in mind for that Donny. Remember having hassle parking.
Ah, maybe it was.

Apologies Donny - you were spot on with the opposition. Just did some research and it was played at St Albans. At least I have lost only half my marbles!

I think he then got 2 in a cup match the following Tuesday, I’m guessing this was about November 99?

Didn't we buy Grant Payne so that Woking could pay the wages that week

Pass, I presumed we got him coz he lost his place in the Woking side, it was about then that Woking were no longer one of the main boys in the division unlike the mid 90’s

I believe he did, followed by 3 more the following game, or may have been the game after. I recall it worked out to be 9 goals in his first 3/4 games.

That sounds familiar, the Cup game I was on about was more than likely a Ryman league cup game

Grant Payne scored 8 goals in his first 3 games - 4 on his debut against Enfield (13.11.99), 3 against Abingdon Town in an Isthmian League Cup second round tie (23.11.99) and a single strike against Braintree Town (27.11.99).

He didn't play in the FA Cup second round tie against Exeter City (20.11.99).

No they had to sell him to raise urgently needed money.

This article describes the circumstances quite well: https://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/nostal ... e-12314718

In the days we could (not really) afford to buy players.
