Zavon Hines

Striker Zavon Hines is one of a number of Chesterfield players being released /made available for transfer today. Martin Allen says Hines lives in London and it would be better if he joined a club near London. Could we afford him?

158 career appearances 22 goals, I make that 1 in 7, not great is it!

Three strikers among those released...

Kyel Reid - age 30, originally from Deptford - 18 apps 0 goals this season
Marc-Antoine Fortune - 37 years old, more travelled than Michael Palin - 11 apps 4 goals this season
Zavon Hines - age 29, east ender, dire goal/game ratio in his career - 17 apps 4 goals this season

None of these would get me excited to be honest!

Failed at National League level. On his way to National South or probably Isthmian League level. If I had to guess, I’d say he’ll be just about good enough for a club like Margate.

About average for our strike force. Can't be worse than We already have. Maybe sign him and play alongside Grant as a front 2.

Sounds to me like the sort of player you might sign as backup, that's not what we need at the moment we need someone that we can be sure of delivering from day one

Has just the sort of awful strike rate to excite Waddock I would have thought. However if we are indeed losing £25k a month we couldn't even afford him though :(

Perhaps the fans can dig deep in January again and trust Gary to make some decent signings.

Contrary to what others have said, Hines is a winger. A winger who was Maidstone's player of the year and has scored 5 in 22 for a terrible Chesterfield side this season.

Personally I'd snap your hand off for a 10 goal a season midfielder! Although I doubt we could afford him, I imagine he'll end up at Barnet.

5 goals in 22 games is certainly a lot more inspiring than the larger stat quoted of 22 goals in 158 games. As you point out Red hot shot not so shabby after all.

I have not mentioned this before, but we gave away our 30 goals a season striker. We hardly played him and when we did he was played wide. Not going to score many goals from the touch line is he? How many people on this board would love to be the clubs main forward and be happy to play out wide. I can not wait to see some persons answer
