A true giant of the game. Will never be forgotten.

They used to say that if he wanted to walk into a pub he'd not have to bother about the door like everyone else, he'd just come through the wall.

Proud to have seen the man play.

Me too, sad passing of yet another legend. RIP Tommy!

A real hard man at a time of hard men, but a very good footballer as well. Wouldn't be on the pitch 5 minutes these days. Another one gone, making me feel old, as the heroes of my youth gradually become fewer.

And Tommy played against us on January 2nd 1971 when we lost 1v0 at Anfield ....

I had forgotten what a great team we played that day.

That’s when the top tier clubs took the FA Cup seriously. I know that others have their own memories of that game but my abiding one is when late in the game, Denis Brown chased after a ball out on the right wing and Smith ran across to intercept but Brown beat him to it and skipped by him before putting over a cross to the far post. Sadly, it was the unmarked Murray Brodie who couldn’t get his header on target, sending the ball over the bar. A different outcome I feel if it had been Howarth on the end of that cross.
