When Wembley was being rebuilt England played their matches around the country. Old Trafford and I think, St James’s Park, Newcastle to name but two. *I’ll check that out later. It was very successful as I recall. I think that it’s right that England play some games other than in London so as to give supporters a decent chance of seeing our national team ‘in the flesh’ rather than just on tv. Wembley’s too far if you live in the NE or NW of the country let alone the midlands and the SW.
I’m not sure how many countries actually have a national stadium. I don’t believe for example that Italy or Spain do. Many national teams play at the bigger stadiums in their relevant countries.

I reckon England played on about 15 different grounds between 01-07 birdman

Yes plus Leicester derby Sunderland Middlesbrough Leeds Southampton West Ham both manc clubs Liverpool Villa possibly Coventry but don’t recall Everton Chelsea and Arsenal which is strange

Correct on all except I think Middlesbrough and Cov. Not sure on Leicester either.
Also White hart Lane and Newcastle were used

I’m pretty certain Leicester and Middlesbrough did, possibly friendlies only, Tottenham one was Holland Phil, 2-2 ?

It was the Dutch, not sure on the score. Remember Mark van Bommel scoring from long range.
