Of course it would help if they took more water with it.

Blocked them now, I don't need to be reading that kind of nonsense.

Today, ITV, 5pm-6pm as part of their football classic series, 1989, an Anfield Friday night title decider, Liverpool vs Arsenal.

Hard to believe that's 31 years ago. Back in the days when top flight football was still good.

Fever Pitch is a good film based around that season too.

I actually like merson, didn’t think much of his drugs use, his drinking and I better say it his gambling as well, he’s been an absolute fool in his life but I don’t think he’s got any nastiness about him if any of that makes sense!
But the fact that he takes drugs means he perpetuates crime, misery and death for others. So that doesn't make him a 'good bloke'.
Don't agree with that. Fantastic player with problems.
The fact that he took drugs does not make him an arsehole. He had a lot of money too young and developed a addiction.
If he has conquered his habit. Fair play to the man.
The acceptance of drug taking is part of the problem.

Think I might have seen that, if I haven't then I ought to. I am guessing the book was written by Nick Hornby?

31 years!! Doesn't bear thinking about.

Yes Oliver Nick Hornby, 31 years ago flown by, then again we’d just played our last division 3 game ( that’s 3rd tier to anyone under 35) which seems like 831 years ago with some of the stuff we’ve had in recent years

I am not saying for one minute that drug taking is acceptable. People make mistakes.
If he has conquered his problem, he shouldn't have to live with a past error for the rest of his life.

Merson is likeable alright. The 'fab' four on a Saturday afternoon, he, Charlie, Thommo, do wish Le Tiss would wear a tie sometimes though.

GSS have good outside broadcasters too, Michelle, Bianca and... Kammy!

Just about to start, who knows what the score's gonna be. George Graham looks in confident mood. This is Liverpool's to lose isn't it?!

31 years ago really is insane. Shorts really were shorts. Two substitutes only, not the rich choices they have nowadays.

Imagine our Premier League prima donnas having to cope with these retro roolz!

Ian Rush has been replaced by Peter Beardsley after jarring a knee taking a power shot at John Lukic.

20 mins in and goal-less. Does sound strange, so quiet with the volume of about twenty people. Boreham Wood would love it.

Tomorrow night ITV4 - visual football!

Liverpool v Arsenal '89 stylee.

Csn you remember where you were when that happened?

I can. For some reason I have a feeling it was a Friday night.

It's also possible of course that our much younger fans will never have seen this classic title-deciding game.
Friday may 26th 1989 Oliver, I was round a mates house in bisley
I watched it whilst on a "boys holiday" in Majorca!

Still goal-less. There's a Leeds connection though because Luciano Becchio is playing for one of the teams. Half falling asleep here mincing on white fudge pretzels.Becchio just drew a yellow card.
Luciano Becchio is currently the assistant manager of CD Atlético Baleares in Spain. I think the name you've heard is that of Hertha Berlin's Dodi Lukebekio.
