I agree with limiting squad sizes, but arbitrary salary caps are unrealistic, clubs like Sunderland with gates of 30000 should be allowed to spend it how they want as long as they remain solvent. A more realistic approach would be a maximum of 75% of turnover on player wages.

I'd prefer something that recognises some clubs are bigger than others too. And probably more controversially some allowances for sugar daddies but with safeguards in place to protect the club if they pull out.

Jimmy Hill would be turning in his grave!

However it makes sense in this rather unusual time and may prevent the game imploding going forward. Even Pre-Covid, I think most on here thought that the unregulated salary range in football was ludicrous.

I think the days of full time professionals below the second tier will be wishful thinking. Tier Five will be part timers, but the players will want to play, rather than second rate full pros who take their wages but offer nothing. The football might become enjoyable again, but not sure how the Recreation Ground will be able to pay for itself.

I agree, I think the main purpose of salary capping is to save clubs from themselves, but as you say it seems unfair that bigger clubs can’t spend money that they have.
