FGR & Hector Bellerin

I'm sure the dinosaurs on this board will roll their eyes in the usual knee-jerk reaction to an FGR story, but this is on the BBC site today;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54069376

Great to hear about a pro footballer (and indeed a club) doing something to make a positive difference for a change.

I like and understand everything about what Vince Dale is doing at FGR. Hats off to the young lad putting his money where his convictions lie.

Plenty on here will be happy to slaughter clubs like FGR, whilst secretly wishing it was us..

I've not always been a fan of DV ill openly admit and was looking forward to his interview on SSN.

In fairness he came across really well.

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has invested in Forest Green Rovers, becoming the League Two club's second-largest shareholder.

The Spaniard is eager to support Rovers' green agenda, with the club having gained recognition as the world's most environmentally friendly team from FIFA and the United Nations (UN).

"Forest Green are showing others the way," Bellerin told the club's official website.

"So many people feel there's no solution to the world's problems, but Forest Green are already doing plenty.

"I'm so excited to be part of the FGR family. I'll be helping where I can, supporting people who want to change the world for the better."

Rovers went vegan in 2015 and were certified carbon neutral by the UN three years later.

In June, Bellerin pledged to plant 3,000 trees for every game Arsenal won for the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

The full-back partnered with global charity 'One Tree Planted', highlighting his passion for environmental issues.

Bellerin is a vegan, something he shares in common with Rovers owner Dale Vince, and the 25-year-old lauded the club's work.

"Forest Green Rovers prove to clubs who say they don't have resources to be sustainable that it is possible," he said.

"With the new stadium, being carbon neutral and vegan, the club is doing some mind-blowing work.

"People have a universal love of football, so there's no better industry to promote sustainability – and what we can do as football supporters to be more environmentally conscious."

Fair play to Bellerin, better than the usual mercenaries coming to play in the PL

Veggie rights and peace.
Wish the Shots catering offered a Veggie Burger. The cheese and tomato pizza and the cheese and onion pies were welcomed but sadly faded away.
Even the Chelsea reserves chips were a nice surprise but then back to our crappie chips for the Shots games.
Eat before you leave home is still the best message while we still serve the most disgusting meat burgers on God’s earth. (proven by a casual fan that I tried to introduce to the Shots, and never returned and all he ever talks about was the worst meat burger he has ever eaten served to him at the Rec) :(

I haven’t eat at the ground for ages and I’m a carnivore but do we really not have veggie options?!

Vegetarian/vegan options at the Rec are extremely limited/non existent.

Whilst I feel the club should address the issue, given the growing number of people that are either Vegetarian or Vegan, they are not alone at our level. Vegetarian/Vegan food is limited or non existent at most National League grounds.

Not since the pie and pizza experiment.
Chips but god know cooked in what and at Shots games very undesirable.

There are so many good plant-based street food options etc now. Maybe worth the club trialling one some time?
