Good for him. His time at Brechin was awful after some promising spells in charge at Raith and East Fife. Hope this role works out, Barry is a gentleman and was a very decent footballer, perhaps an Assistant role is a better option.

It's a shame as Barry worked miracles at Dundee when they had their points deduction a few years back. Believe it or not, the lower are very competitive for players, as many will even move 20 miles up the road for another £15 a week. It was the right idea from our board to appoint a firefighter manager but not when Barry had zero connections down here, he was always on a hiding to nothing.

Keeping Dundee up was a fantastic effort

Barry Smith managed 56pts in his season with the Shots and achieved a respectable 15th lower mid table position. He was forced out by constant flak from certain quarters.

If Gary Waddock had managed 56pts last season he would not have been sacked and would still be our manager today.

If Danny Searle manages 56pts this season he will be hailed a hero.

I agree with you. Always think he gets a hard time on here.

The football at times was poor, he wanted to go back home for personal reasons and that probably speeded things up, as not sure club would have got rid of him if he hadn’t although I could be wrong.
